Without line breaks
The text without line breaks appears here as you type.

Paste text and the unwanted line breaks are removed as you type. The default mode keeps your paragraphs, so text copied from a PDF, an email, or a web page turns back into normal flowing paragraphs instead of one giant block. Words split with a hyphen at the end of a line are rejoined, list items stay on their own lines, and leftover double spaces are cleaned up. You can also remove every line break or replace them with commas or any text you like. Everything runs in your browser.

How to remove line breaks

  1. Paste your text into the left pane, or open a .txt file.
  2. The cleaned text appears on the right right away.
  3. Pick Keep paragraphs to fix text copied from a PDF or email, or Remove every line break to put everything on one line.
  4. Choose what replaces each line break: a space, nothing, a comma, or your own text.
  5. Click Copy or Download.

The two modes

ModeWhat it doesBest for
Keep paragraphsJoins the lines inside each paragraph and keeps the blank lines between paragraphsText copied from PDFs, emails, eBooks, and old documents that wrap every line
Remove every line breakJoins every line into a single line, skipping blank linesLists, form fields, spreadsheet cells, social posts, and code that needs one line

Why PDF text has line breaks

PDFs don't store paragraphs. They store lines of text at fixed positions on the page. When you copy from a PDF, each line on the page becomes its own line in your clipboard, and words that were hyphenated to fit the column come out split in two, like informa- and tion. Keep paragraphs mode reverses this. It rejoins lines into paragraphs, puts hyphenated words back together, and leaves real paragraph breaks alone.

A hyphen is only removed when the next line starts with a lowercase letter, so hyphenated names and codes like COVID-19 or Jean-Luc that happen to break across lines keep their hyphens.

Turn a list into one line

Choose Remove every line break and replace line breaks with A comma and space to turn a column of names, emails, or IDs into a comma-separated list. Use a custom value like OR to build a search query, or <br> to turn lines into HTML.

Frequently asked questions

How do I remove line breaks but keep paragraphs?

Use Keep paragraphs, which is the default. Single line breaks inside a paragraph are replaced with spaces, and blank lines between paragraphs are kept.

Does it work with Windows and Mac line breaks?

Yes. Windows (CRLF), Unix and macOS (LF), and old Mac (CR) line endings are all handled, along with the Unicode line and paragraph separators that some apps and PDFs use.

Will it merge my bullet points into one paragraph?

No. With Keep list items on their own lines turned on, lines that start with -, *, •, or a number like 1. or 2) start a new line, so lists stay readable.

How do I remove line breaks in Word or Excel?

In Word, use Find and Replace with ^p (paragraph mark) or ^l (manual line break) and replace with a space. In Excel, use =SUBSTITUTE(A1, CHAR(10), " ") or Find and Replace with Ctrl+J. For a quick one-off, paste the text here and copy it back.

Can I remove line breaks with code?

In JavaScript, text.replace(/\r?\n/g, ' ') removes them. In Python, ' '.join(text.splitlines()) does the same. Keeping paragraphs and fixing hyphenated words takes more logic, which this tool handles for you.

Is my text uploaded anywhere?

No. The text is processed in your browser and never sent to a server.
