Paste any text and this tool removes every emoji from it as you type, including skin tones, flags, family and profession emoji built from several characters, and keycaps like . Ordinary symbols like ©, ™, and arrows are kept unless you choose otherwise, and the spaces left behind are tidied up so the text reads naturally. It also lists which emoji it found and how many times. Everything runs in your browser.
How to remove emoji from text
- Paste your text into the left pane, or click Open file to load a .txt, .csv, .md, or subtitle file.
- The clean text appears on the right right away, and the emoji that were removed are listed under the panes with their counts.

- Click Copy or Download.
Why simple emoji removers miss things
Many emoji aren't a single character. A family emoji like is three people joined by invisible zero-width joiners. A thumbs up with a skin tone is two characters. A flag like
is two regional indicator letters, and
is the digit 1 plus two invisible marks. Tools that delete characters one at a time from a fixed list often leave behind stray pieces, like a lone skin-tone square, a letter from a flag, or invisible characters that break searches and database matches.
This remover uses the Unicode emoji properties built into your browser and treats each full sequence as one emoji, so it removes the whole thing cleanly. Because it relies on Unicode's own data, it recognizes new emoji as soon as your browser does.

Common reasons to strip emoji
- Databases and spreadsheets: older MySQL tables using utf8 instead of utf8mb4 reject emoji, and some CSV importers garble them.
- SMS and older systems: a single emoji can switch a text message to a different encoding that cuts its length from 160 characters to 70.
- Professional writing: copying social media posts or chat messages into reports, emails, or legal documents.
- Data cleaning and analysis: preparing comments, reviews, or survey answers for text analysis, search, or machine learning.
- File names and code: emoji in file names, URLs, and identifiers cause problems on many systems.
Frequently asked questions
Will it remove letters with accents or text in other languages?
No. Only emoji are removed. Accented letters, Chinese, Japanese, Arabic, Hindi, and every other script stay exactly as they are, and so do numbers and punctuation.
Does it leave double spaces behind?
No, as long as Tidy spaces is on. A space is kept between words that an emoji separated, extra spaces are dropped, and no space is left before punctuation or at the start or end of a line.
Can I get just the emoji instead?
Yes. Set Output to Only the emoji to pull every emoji out of the text, line by line. The list under the panes also shows each emoji with how many times it appears.
Does it remove the invisible characters that come with emoji?
Yes. Variation selectors, keycap marks, skin-tone modifiers, and the tag characters used in regional flags are removed along with their emoji, and stray ones left over from broken emoji are removed too. Zero-width joiners between letters in scripts like Hindi and Arabic are left alone, because those scripts need them.
Is my text uploaded anywhere?
No. The text is processed by JavaScript in your browser and never sent to a server.
How do I remove emoji in Excel or Google Sheets?
Spreadsheets have no built-in emoji filter. The quickest way is to copy the column, paste it here, and paste the clean text back. To clean a whole CSV file, open it here and download the result, since commas and line breaks are kept as they are.
How do I remove emoji with code?
In JavaScript, text.replace(/\p{Extended_Pictographic}/gu, '') removes most emoji but leaves pieces like skin tones and flag letters behind. In Python, the emoji package's replace_emoji function handles full sequences. This tool handles all of those sequences for you.
