Generate a .txt file filled with random text at the exact size, length, or line count you need. Pick random characters, words, sentences, numbered lines, log entries, numbers, UUIDs, or hex, preview the result, and download one file or a whole batch. Everything is generated in your browser.

How to create a random text file
- Choose the kind of text you want, like random characters, sentences, or numbered lines.
- Set the size. You can ask for an exact file size in bytes, KB, or MB, or for a number of characters, words, or lines.
- Adjust the layout if you need to, such as Windows line breaks or UTF-16 encoding, and check the preview.
- Download the .txt file. To make several different files at once, raise How many files and you’ll get them in a ZIP.
Exact file sizes for upload and limit testing
When you choose a size in bytes, KB, or MB, the file comes out at exactly that size, counting every line break, the byte order mark, and characters that take more than one byte, like accented letters and emoji. That makes it easy to check how an upload form handles a file right at its limit and just over it. Generate one at 5 MB and another at 5,242,881 bytes, one byte over.
Sizes use binary units, so 1 KB is 1,024 bytes and 1 MB is 1,048,576 bytes, which matches how Windows and most web servers measure file size. If you need decimal units, enter the size in bytes, such as 5,000,000.
Which kind of text to use
Random characters are good for testing storage, compression, and encoding. Turn on accented letters or emoji to check that a system handles multi-byte UTF-8 correctly. Random words and Sentences look more like real writing, which helps when testing search, word counts, or text layout.
Numbered lines start each line with its line number, so you can see at a glance whether a file was cut short, reordered, or had lines dropped during an import. Log entries produce timestamped lines with levels and messages for testing log parsers and viewers. Numbers, UUIDs, and Hex or Base64 give you clean data for spreadsheets, databases, and scripts.
Reproducible files with a seed
Every file is built from a seed number. Using the same seed with the same settings always produces the same file, byte for byte, so you can recreate a test file later or share settings with a teammate instead of the file itself. Select the dice button for a new seed. When you generate several files, each one uses the next seed in sequence, so every file is different.
Frequently asked questions
How large a file can I generate?
Up to 500 MB in total. Large files are generated in chunks with a progress bar, so the page stays responsive, but very large files take a few seconds and need free memory in your browser.
Can I use this to generate passwords?
No. The text comes from a fast seeded generator designed to be reproducible, which also makes it predictable. Use a password manager or a dedicated password generator for anything that needs to be secret.
Why does the character count differ from the file size?
File size is measured in bytes. In UTF-8, plain English letters and digits take one byte each, but accented letters take two and most emoji take four. A Windows line break is also two characters, a carriage return and a line feed.
Which line break style should I pick?
LF works everywhere modern, including Windows Notepad. Choose CRLF if you’re testing software that expects Windows-style files, and CR only for very old Mac software.
Is anything uploaded?
No. The text is generated in your browser, and nothing is sent to a server.
