Find & Replace

Literal mode treats the find and replacement text literally. Regex mode uses JavaScript regular expressions.

Find, replace, regex processing, preview generation, copying, and downloads happen locally in this browser. Your text is not uploaded to Flipper File.

Online Find and Replace Text Tool

This find and replace tool searches text for an exact phrase or JavaScript regular expression and creates a replaced output without uploading the source text. You can replace the first match or every match, preview where matches occur, and download the finished text.

How to Find and Replace Text

  1. Paste text into the input box or load a text-based file.
  2. Enter the text or pattern to find.
  3. Enter the replacement text, or leave it blank to remove each match.
  4. Choose literal or regular-expression mode and select the replacement scope.
  5. Click Preview & Replace.
  6. Review the highlighted matches and output before copying or downloading it.

Literal Find and Replace

Literal mode treats the find text as ordinary text rather than regex syntax. Characters such as periods, parentheses, brackets, dollar signs, and backslashes have no special matching meaning. The replacement is also literal, so a value such as $1 is inserted as the characters dollar-sign and one.

Regular Expression Replace

Regex mode uses JavaScript regular-expression syntax. Capture groups and replacement substitutions are supported, including numbered groups such as $1, named groups such as $<name>, the complete match $&, and a literal dollar sign with $$.

Regex Flags

The i flag makes matching case-insensitive, m changes how ^ and $ behave across multiple lines, s lets a dot match newline characters, and u enables Unicode-aware regex parsing. Replace-first versus replace-all controls whether global matching is used.

Regex Safety

Some poorly designed regular expressions can take an extremely long time to evaluate. Regex work is isolated from the page in a browser Web Worker and is stopped if it exceeds the processing timeout. This helps prevent a problematic pattern from locking the main page interface.

Why Find and Replace Results Can Differ Between Tools

Differences usually come from case sensitivity, regex flags, whether all matches or only the first match are replaced, or how replacement-group syntax is interpreted. Textarea line endings are also normalized by browsers, so use a file-specific tool when exact original byte-for-byte line endings are important.

Private Browser-Side Processing

Literal matching, regex evaluation, preview highlighting, result generation, clipboard copying, and file downloads all happen locally. No external JavaScript library, CDN asset, search API, or server-side replacement service is required.
