Free Online Text Cleaner and Normalizer
This text cleaner fixes the invisible and inconsistent problems that come along with copied text: zero-width characters, byte-order marks, curly quotes, stray HTML, doubled spaces, piles of blank lines, and mixed Windows and Unix line endings. Paste text or open a file, pick the cleanup steps you want, and copy or download the result.
How to Clean Text
- Paste your text into the input box, or click Open file to load a .txt, .csv, .md, .log, or similar file.
- Choose the cleanup options you want. The defaults handle the most common problems safely.
- Review the cleaned text and the list of changes applied underneath it.
- Click Copy or Download .txt to save the result.
Hidden Characters
Text copied from web pages, PDFs, chat apps, and AI tools often carries characters you cannot see, such as zero-width spaces, soft hyphens, and byte-order marks. They break search, cause "identical" strings to fail comparisons, and create errors in code, CSV imports, and spreadsheets. The input panel counts them before you clean so you know whether they are present.
Smart Quotes, Dashes, and Special Spaces
Word processors replace straight quotes with curly ones and hyphens with en or em dashes. That looks good in print but breaks code, command lines, and plain-text systems. Straightening converts them to ASCII equivalents, and space normalization turns non-breaking and thin spaces into ordinary spaces.
Spacing and Blank Lines
Trailing spaces, doubled spaces between words, and long runs of blank lines are common after copying from formatted documents. The cleaner collapses them without touching the indentation at the start of each line, so code and nested lists keep their structure.
Line Endings: LF vs CRLF
Windows uses CRLF line breaks, while macOS and Linux use LF. When you open a file, the tool detects which style it uses, including mixed files, and keeps the original by default. Choose LF or CRLF to convert every line break to one consistent style. Copying and downloading preserve the exact line endings you picked.
Stripping HTML
The HTML option parses markup the way a browser does and keeps only the visible text. Scripts and styles are dropped, line breaks and block elements become new lines, and entities such as & and are decoded. Nothing in the pasted HTML is run or loaded.
Private Browser-Side Processing
All cleaning runs in JavaScript on your device. Files are read locally, and no text is sent to a server, so the tool is safe to use with private documents.
