Free Online KML File Viewer
Instantly visualize KML geographic data on an interactive map — right in your browser. No installation, no signup, no data uploaded to a server. Your files stay on your device.
What is a KML file?
KML (Keyhole Markup Language) is an XML-based format for representing geographic data. Originally developed for Google Earth, KML files are now widely used across GIS applications, mapping platforms, and location-based services. A single KML file can contain placemarks (points of interest), paths and routes (lines), area boundaries (polygons), descriptive metadata, and custom styling information like colors and line widths.
How to use this viewer
1 Upload your file
Drag and drop a .kml file onto the sidebar, or click the Upload KML button in the top-right corner. You can also load a sample file to explore the interface before using your own data.
2 Explore the map
Your KML data is parsed and rendered instantly on an interactive OpenStreetMap base layer. Pan, zoom, and click on any feature to see its properties, metadata, and coordinates.
3 Browse features
The sidebar lists every feature in your file — color-coded by type. Click any item to fly to its location on the map and open a detail panel with all associated attributes.
4 Inspect details
The info panel displays each feature's name, description, type, and any ExtendedData properties defined in the KML. Useful for reviewing survey data, field notes, or export metadata.
What KML elements are supported?
This viewer supports Point, LineString, and Polygon geometries, including features nested inside MultiGeometry elements. It also reads inline styles, shared styles via styleUrl references, StyleMap definitions, and ExtendedData properties (both Data and SchemaData formats).
Is my data private?
Yes. This tool runs entirely in your browser using client-side JavaScript. Your KML files are never uploaded to a remote server — all parsing and rendering happens locally on your device.
Can I view KMZ files?
KMZ files are compressed archives that contain a KML file along with associated resources. This viewer currently supports .kml files directly. To view a KMZ, rename it to .zip, extract the contents, and upload the .kml file inside.
Where do KML files come from?
KML files are commonly exported from Google Earth, Google My Maps, QGIS, ArcGIS, GPS devices, drone mapping software, and many other geospatial tools. If you can export to KML from your application, you can visualize it here.
