Drop up to 20 listing photos, in the order they'll appear, and check each one against Etsy's image guidelines before you upload. The checker flags anything Etsy doesn't support, like animated GIFs, transparent backgrounds that turn black, and CMYK colors. It checks the 635-pixel minimum for your first photo and the 2000-pixel recommendation for sharp zoom, and warns about files over 1 MB that may not finish uploading. It also shows how your first photo will be cropped into square, portrait, and landscape thumbnails, and warns when the product would be cut off. Fix everything in one click, with sRGB color, a solid background, landscape padding, and compression under 1 MB, and download one photo or a ZIP of all of them. Your photos never leave your browser.

How Etsy crops your thumbnails
Your first photo appears in several places: search results, your shop page, the listing page, and the Etsy app. Etsy crops it differently in each, into square, portrait, and landscape views, always from the center. A product that fills the frame edge to edge will lose its ends in at least one of them. Etsy's advice is to shoot from further back than you think you need and keep the most important part of the item in the center.
The checker estimates where your product is by comparing it with the background, then tests it against all three crops. If any would cut it off, Pad adds space around the photo in its own background color, so every crop keeps the whole product. It works best with plain or studio backgrounds. For busy scenes, use the crop previews to judge for yourself, and fine-tune with Etsy's thumbnail adjustment tool when you create the listing.
Frequently asked questions
What size should Etsy listing photos be?
Etsy recommends at least 2000 pixels in both width and height. Your first photo must be at least 635 x 635 to avoid ranking lower in search. A landscape photo around 3000 x 2400 or 3000 x 2250 pixels gives plenty of room for zoom and thumbnail cropping.
What aspect ratio is best for Etsy photos?
Etsy recommends a landscape or square first photo and doesn't require one exact ratio. Because thumbnails are cropped to square, portrait, and landscape, what matters most is space around your product. A landscape photo between 4:3 and 5:4 with the item centered works well in every view.
Why are my Etsy photos showing a black background?
The image is a PNG with a transparent background. Etsy doesn't support transparency and shows those areas as black. The checker detects it and fills the transparent areas with a solid color of your choice.
Why do my photo colors look different on Etsy?
Etsy converts every photo to the sRGB color profile. Photos saved in Adobe RGB, Display P3, or CMYK can shift in color when converted. The checker reads the color profile in your file and its fix converts to sRGB first, so what you download is what shoppers see.
Why won't my Etsy photo upload?
Common causes are an unsupported file type such as WebP, a very large file on a slow connection, or an animated GIF. The checker catches all three, and its fix saves a JPG under 1 MB.
Are my photos uploaded anywhere?
No. Checking and fixing happen in your browser. Your photos aren't sent to Etsy or any other server.
