Frequently Asked Questions
Is this password generator safe to use?
Yes. All passwords are generated using your browser's built-in crypto.getRandomValues() API — the same cryptographically secure random number generator used by security software. No password you generate here is ever transmitted to any server or stored anywhere.
What makes a strong password?
A strong password is at least 16 characters long and combines uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols. Avoid dictionary words, names, or predictable patterns. This tool generates passwords meeting all of these criteria by default.
How long should my password be?
For most accounts, 16–20 characters is a solid baseline. For high-value accounts (banking, email, work), 24–32 characters is better. Use a password manager to store them so you don't have to memorize them.
Can I generate multiple passwords at once?
Yes — use the bulk generator section to create up to 20 passwords simultaneously. This is useful when setting up multiple accounts or resetting passwords in bulk.
Does Flipper File store or log my generated passwords?
No. Passwords are generated entirely in your browser using JavaScript. No data leaves your device. We have no server-side component for this tool.
What characters are included in the symbol set?
The default symbol set includes: !@#$%^&*()-_=+[]{}|;:,.<>?. You can toggle symbols on or off; the tool also lets you exclude ambiguous characters (like 0, O, l, 1) that can be confused when reading passwords aloud.
Should I use the same password for multiple sites?
Never. If one site is breached, every account sharing that password is at risk. Generate a unique password for each account and store them in a password manager like Bitwarden or 1Password.
What is crypto.getRandomValues() and why does it matter?
It's a browser API that generates cryptographically secure random numbers — the gold standard for security-sensitive randomness. Unlike Math.random(), which is not secure enough for passwords, crypto.getRandomValues() is unpredictable and used in real cryptography. This tool uses it exclusively.
