Creating Markdown tables by hand is tedious — counting pipes, aligning dashes, and reformatting every time the content changes. Our Markdown Table Generator lets you type directly into a visual grid and instantly outputs clean, properly formatted Markdown table code. No account, no downloads, no limits.
How to Use the Markdown Table Generator
- Set your table size — Choose the number of columns and rows using the controls at the top of the tool.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Markdown table syntax?
Markdown tables use pipes (|) to separate columns and dashes (---) to create the header separator row. A typical table looks like: | Name | Age | on the first line, | --- | --- | on the second (the separator), and data rows follow. Alignment is set by adding colons: | :--- | for left, | :---: | for center, | ---: | for right.
Where can I use Markdown tables?
Markdown tables work in GitHub README files, GitHub Issues and Pull Requests, Notion, Obsidian, Joplin, Jekyll and Hugo static sites, GitLab, Bitbucket, many chat apps like Mattermost, and any editor that supports GitHub-Flavored Markdown (GFM).
Does Markdown support tables natively?
Standard CommonMark Markdown does not include table syntax — tables are part of the GitHub-Flavored Markdown (GFM) extension, which is now supported by the vast majority of Markdown renderers and editors. If your output platform doesn't render the table, check whether it supports GFM.
Can I import CSV data into the table generator?
Yes. Click the "Import CSV" button, paste your comma-separated data, and the tool will automatically fill in the grid with your rows and columns.
How do I add more rows or columns?
Use the "+ Row" and "+ Column" buttons to expand your table. You can also delete any row or column by clicking the trash icon that appears when you hover over a row number or column header.
What happens if my cell content contains a pipe character?
In Markdown, the pipe (|) character is used to separate columns. If your content includes a literal pipe, you should escape it with a backslash (\|). The Markdown Table Generator automatically escapes pipe characters in cell content for you.
Is there a limit to how many rows or columns I can create?
No hard limits. The tool runs entirely in your browser, so extremely large tables may slow down older devices, but for typical use (up to several hundred rows) it performs smoothly.
Can I copy the table and paste it back to edit later?
Not directly — the tool is session-based and doesn't save state. However, you can paste a Markdown table back into Markdown editors that support WYSIWYG table editing. If you need to re-edit, keep a copy of your CSV source data.
