Frequently Asked Questions
What is an M3U file?
An M3U file is a plain-text playlist format originally developed for Winamp. Each entry lists a media file path or stream URL, optionally preceded by an #EXTINF line with the duration and track title. M3U files are widely used for music playlists, IPTV channel lists, podcast exports, and HLS video streams.
What is the difference between M3U and M3U8?
M3U8 is the UTF-8 encoded version of M3U. The format is otherwise identical, but M3U8 handles international characters more reliably. HLS (HTTP Live Streaming) playlists use the .m3u8 extension. This viewer supports both formats.
Can I view IPTV playlists with this tool?
Yes. Large IPTV playlists with thousands of channels — including group-title, tvg-id, tvg-name, and tvg-logo tags — are fully supported. You can search and filter entries to find specific channels quickly.
Is my playlist file uploaded to a server?
No. All parsing happens entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Your M3U file never leaves your device, so private stream URLs and credentials in the file stay private.
Why is my M3U file showing no entries?
Make sure the file starts with #EXTM3U on the first line and that each track entry has a corresponding URL on the line immediately after its #EXTINF tag. Plain M3U files without #EXTINF lines are also supported — the tool will still list each URL entry.
Can I edit the playlist after viewing it?
This tool is a viewer, not an editor. However, you can export the parsed data to CSV, edit it in a spreadsheet, and reconstruct your playlist from there.
What metadata fields does the viewer show?
The viewer extracts and displays: track title, duration (in seconds), group-title, tvg-name, tvg-id, tvg-logo, and the stream URL. Any unrecognized custom tags are also shown in a raw column.
Can I paste M3U text instead of uploading a file?
Yes. There is a "Paste M3U text" tab that lets you paste raw playlist content directly into the tool — useful when you've copied an IPTV playlist URL's output or have the content in your clipboard.
